It&#8217;s a way of creating an extra room for very little cost.  Can be open with flywire etc for the windows in hot climates, or built as an extra room with boards and windows.  Usually found on older buildings.<br />

I assume you are putting all your profits into paying off your own mortgage, which will reduce it much quicker.  If you can afford it though, have you considered keeping these going for as long as you can. In certain suburbs in Melb, a tree that size would definintely need council approval to remove.  Information like this can often be obtained from council websites relatively easily.  Talk to you neighbour before going much futher.  They may LOVE the tree and you could be wasting your time if it not dangerous.</p>

<p>I did the same thing myself.  I changed my home loan to an offset account in the end.  It was well worth it.  Talk to your lender.  They should be happy to help.  Later down the track went with the LOC, but that caused a few more issues to set up than the offset account.</p>
