    I found a mention of this in an US book, which if I understand allows you to sell a property and place the profits in some kind of tax-free holding state until you use them to buy again.

    Is there an equivalent system in Australia?

    You cannot do this in Aust. as far as I am aware, but it may be possible when selling a business under certain circumstances.
