I was taught from day 1 that a discretionary trust under a company was always the wasy to go so that you achieved the maximum protection.

Don’t forget also about the land tax situation. If you’re getting up towards the land tax figure, start up discretionary trust #2, #3, #4 etc so there is no liability there.

Everything that I’ve heard tells me to use a structure of a company with a discretionary trust which is primarily designed to protect you in case of any legal problems and also to have the best taxation advantages.

Don’t forget that the new purchaser is going to pay the cost of creating the contract in his startup costs – if you spread the $495 over several deals it’s not a large sum to outlay

I design & build sheds, garages & carports on the Sunshine Coast. The Council fees are probably correct, the certifier is really the best way to go, he would only do a final inspection anyway,so his costs are minimal, the majority of fees are swallowed up by council.

Welcome to one of the best growth areas in Queensland. If you’re not going to be around for a while, I would suggest that you buy the new home so that you won’t have any maintenance problems to worry about while you’re travelling.
