Has anyone of your got a speeding ticket?

I got a speeding fine last month, no alchohol, clean record. The officers gave that usual intimidating look and face, then another one came with the breath tester, looked at me like i was a dog to be kicked by him.
Then they got back to their car, wasted time here and there, and gave me 4 demerit points. Thats all fine, i admit i was speeding cos rushing to send my friend to the airport.
Paid my fine 3 weeks ago, then today i got a letter saying my license has been suspended! Can they do that? My boss has got more speeding tickets than me, and he never got a suspension before!
I believe the officer is abusing his power, cos i wasn’t pleading or giving them a puppy dog look. In fact i asked them to hurry up to finish writing the ticket cos they were mucking about slowly in their car (rude huh me?), who takes 20 minutes to write a ticket???
Is there a way to complaion about their abuse of power?

    Hey Fullout

The best way to make a complaint about the police is to write to or call the Ombudsmand or Commissioner of Police.

    Hi there,

    Let’s just say…(scenario here)
you were driving to inspect one of your IP’s could you claim this as a taxable deduction? [}:)]
I think not, but it’s worth trying anyway!

Sorry to hear about your fine.

    Cheers

Bad luck, it sounds like you were exceeding the speed limit by enough to get a suspension as well.
I thought it was 30km in Victoria, or did they change it?

I have not had any good experiences with police and do not respect them at all.

They are a brotherhood that believe they can do whatever they want because, hey, who you gonna call and complain to?

It’s good to see the Ceja taskforce are prosecuting police for selling heroin, killing witnesses and numerous other things like taking bribes etc.

A good mate of mine has a cop for a brother and he also sells marijuana and brags about keeping money they find on raids.

    Hi there

It’s 40k over the speed limit up here in Qld before you lose your licence automatically. Not suggesting that you should travel around Qld 39k above the legal limit either!!!

    Take care

In Victoria it is 25 above the limit unless you are driving in a 110k zone the it drops to 20k above the limit. It was changed either last year or earlier this year.
On another note has anyone heard about the new speed cameras to be installed on the great ocean road? they are built into the road and look like a cats eye.

My husband is a policeman and he reckons he can’t see what you are whinging about. If you were driving fast enough to get your licence suspended then you wern’t just a touch over the limit were you so cop it on the chin. It might slow you down so you don’t kill yourself or someone else and remember that there is good and bad in every organisation!

P.S. what has this got to do with property investing?

Got to agree with Kate here. The guys that booked you have probably seen more than their fair share of fatalities due to speeding. The fact that they stopped you may mean they have saved someones life. You never know what is around the corner. I got booked once for doing 62 in a 40 school zone…. I thought the zone time ended at 0900 not 0930. I copped it on the chin because it was a stupid thing to do and I could not live with myself if I had hit a kid; I have kids of my own.
And yeah, what has this got to do with Property Investing? [:I]

well i hate to say it but i’ve had way to much experiance in this area, i’ve lost my license a few times, like everyone says in vic its 25ks over in a 100 zone and 20k in a 110 zone.. i think..
my brother is currently fighting a loss of license case as the cops just pulled him over and said you where speeding back there without any speed detection units.. just a guess!! true he was speeding, but if they cant prove it fight it!!

also if you where going to loose your license i would have thought that they would have informed you about it.

it also seems unusual that u got the letter in time i never got mine until i only had like a week left!

also if u think u’ve been unfairly done by and the cop says well u can cop it or we’ll take it to court tell em u’ll take it to court! why coz F$CK them thats why! (good will hunting) anyways cops hate going to court and half the time there wrong anyway!

The relationship between speeding and property investments is quite simple, both involve an element of risk. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose and remember when you lose learn from the mistake and don’t do it again. Finally ignorance of the law is no excuse for the crime whether it’s investing or speeding.

True, there are good and bad police officers, just as there are good and bad in any walk of life, but never make sweeping statements that “all” are this or that…

My sister is a police officer, and is one of the most compassionate and understanding people I know. Some of her colleagues are power-crazed idiots, while others are at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Also, as a journalist learning the ropes I was often reporting on police matters. Some of the things I have seen at the accident scenes that I had to go to defy description. When you see emergency services personnel picking up body parts of children because some fool wanted to get somewhere a bit quicker, it puts it into perspective. One night I had to go to a scene, arrived just after the police, and found a person I knew with a fencepost through his throat, well and truly dead. Sorry to be graphic, but these are the consequences of foolish behaviour on the roads.

Don’t speed or break any other laws and you have nothing to worry about. If you do break them and get caught, don’t squeal, take it on the chin and learn a lesson.

By the way, what DOES this have to do with property investing?

why are some of you taking this comment on policemen so personally? Never did i once say ‘all’ poilcemen are acb or xyz. I never generalized in that manner at all. All i said was those specific 2 officers who booked me, gave a bloody bad attitude of intimidation, and never informed me about the licence being suspended for a month. I was totaly unaware of the suspension until last week, 2 weeks into the suspension.
And i wasnt speeding in a 60 zone at all, I was going 85 in a 80 zone passed a yellow light into a 60 zone, and the police stopped me, saying i sped 85 in a 60 zone. I admit i was speeding a little bit, but i dont get that “i am going to kick your ass you dog’ intimidation from them.

And it has got something to do with property investing where we can all learn something about – where do u take your complain if someone in power is trying to be funny with you, and never informs you about things like suspension and ‘other charges’.
