Community to gain from Sydney infrastructure project

Sydney infrastructure in particular, runs the risk of becoming overcrowded and congested, as lord mayor Clover Moore expects the population to almost double by 2036.
To counteract this problem, the NSW capital has seen efforts to revamp its transportation network and make way for commercial growth.
One of the most recent initiatives was announced yesterday (April 24) and involves the implementation of a new freight terminal in the south-west of the city.
A Sydney infrastructure project that will benefit the community as a whole, the Moorebank terminal will be contracted out to a yet-to-be-determined private firm and is expected to remove 3,300 trucks from Sydney highways.
Sydney drivers should see relief from the reduction of heavy vehicles on the motorway and commuters may even save some time on their daily journeys to and from work.
The initiative is also set to bring thousands of jobs to the region throughout its construction and at its completion.
Roughly 1,650 full time roles are expected to be filled during the building phase and around 1,700 positions will be created during operation.
The new terminal is also expected to inject $135 million annually into the economy in south-west Sydney.
In addition to the six-point transportation revival plan being prepared by the City of Sydney council, this development may ease population stressors and encourage property investment in the area.

These guys couldn’t lay straight in bed. Rail’s never been able to compete with trucks. So unless they’ve come up with a magic train it ain’t going to happen.
