There are some great areas to invest in but you will need to focus on a balanced portfolio &#8211; combining investments with positive cashflow (usually South Island or smaller towns) with investment which will generate capital growth (large towns, particularly Auckland).<br />

<p>Nigel is spot on &#8211; as an international investor you need to be careful of the structures you use, otherwise you can get caught with capital gains tax and a whole host of other issues.</p>
<p>We have found we have had to find the right accountants both in Australia and New Zealand and get them working together.</p>
