    Hi There
Has anyone invested in property in NZ?
Curious to know where is should look to learn about appropriate tax laws, capital gains etc for the NZ Property market.
    Thanks!

From my understanding – there is no Stamp Duty and no Capital Gains Tax for NZ but that all changes with the structure you have.

For example, if you purchase a NZ investment and bring the Capital gains into Aus, you will pay tax on them.

make a list of specific questions and im sure someone here will eb able to answer them for you.

    Kind Regards,
    George.

    Hi starting out,

Am excellent place to start would be a recording that Steve McKnight is bringing out soon, which is an interview with New Zealand Legal Expert Mike Ward…

We used Mike on several occasions as our solicitor in NZ, and he is the most vibrant, switched on, up to date, solicitor who is actually a huge property investor. You will even stay awake listening to him, unlike 99% of other legal people.[sleepyanim]

I’m not sure when it is available, but I’m sure if you contact admin at propertyinvesting.com they could tell you.

I am sure it will be in a language that you can understand ‘cos Mike is very down to earth.[shades]

    All the best,

    Del [thumbsupanim]

    Hi Zippy,
I certainly could, and his prices were extremely reasonable, however, Mike is such a great property investor, he has just given up his legal practice.[confused2]

BUMMER – It’s not often you find someone like him, he will be very hard to replace![bawl]

    regards,

Lisa Dudson & Andrew King’s book “The Complete Guide to Residential Property Investment in New Zealand” has quite a good overview.
