    Hi all,
Here is a riddle. If you have ten identical looking sacks of identical looking marbles, all of which contain marbles which weigh 1g each except one sack where the marbles weigh 1.1g each, and you have some electronic scales that you can use once only, how will you decide which sack has the heavier marbles? (this one is pure logic)

    Regards,
    Si

    Here is a similar one,
You have 9 identical appearing balls and a pair of balance scales. One of the balls is heavier than the others by a tiny fraction. You may use the balance scales twice only. How will you find the heavier ball?

    Regards,
    Si

Weigh two lots of three balls.

If identical weigh two of the remaining balls. If identical the third is it.

If the first two lots were different weight, then weigh two of the heavier balls against each other. If same then the third is the one.

    How about something harder.

I have one for you Mortgage Hunter, gee took me ages to solve this one, but then I’m not that good at solving problems like this.

4 people have to cross a wonky bridge. One of the people is a rescuer and has a light.
THe rescurer needs to take the 3 other people across the bridge.

Only two people at the same time can walk over the bridge because it’s weak.

It’s really dark and there’s only that one light to share. THere’s no way they can cross the bridge without the light.

In 17 minutes a bomb will explode so they all have to make it in 17 minutes to the other side.

The rescuer is fit and healthy and can make it across the bridge in just 1 minute.

THe next person is a bit unfit and needs 2 minutes to cross the bridge.

The 3rd person is injured and needs 5 minutes to get to the other side.

The last person is very old and injured and cannot do it any quicker than in 10 minutes.

So how do all 4 people get to the other side with just one light and the bridge holds only 2 people at the time?

    Good luck.

    4 minutes left

    2nd goes back. 2 minutes

    2 minutes left

2nd and 1st go across. 2 minutes taken

You’re tooooo clever Simon! Not fair!

Others can try too, of course.

DO you know the one about the wolf, goat and cabbage already?
If you don’t, then here it is.

A farmer is on its way to market with a wolf, a goat and a cabbage.

He comes to a river where he finds a boat that will hold only himself and one item.

THe wolf and goat are too weak to swim across but strong enough to eat each other. If you put them all together, the wolf will eat the goat, the goat will eat the cabbage.

How can the farmer get himself and all the other items across the river in the boat?

I know it so will step back.

Puzzles are a hobby of mine – sounds nerdy I guess!

I do the cryptic every morning and it is good to get thinking first up!

    Thanks Celivia.

Did aussierogue ever tell us the answer to his riddle about the person getting the package from the shop?

Farmer takes goat across river, goes back.

Takes wolf across, brings goat back.

    Takes cabbage across, goes back.

    Takes goat over.

How does he keep them all separate on land?

    Cheers

Hehe Melbear, you found the solution!
    You deserve an extra star[biggrin]

As for your question about how he keeps them separate on land:

The poor goat, wolf and farmer were so b*#@# hungry after waiting for 25 days for a solution how to get to the other side, that upon arrival they had a feast![tongue]
