Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to find out building requirements for shared housing or unit type development in NSW. Are there any specific rules that require things like fire escapes / etc for shared accommodation ?or is that just high rise that does?

Totally different beasts Nick, you would need to refer to the Building Code of Australia but it is not bedtime reading – shared housing (single dwelling with multiple unrelated parties eg boarding house are nothing like strata (several sole occupancy units). The BCA covers both as well as every other class of building.

There are provisions for required exits, fire safety features, smoke detectors etc as well as provisions for accessibility issues to be considered.

Thanks, by the look of it, I would be building a 1B type building, which looks very similar so far to the normal residential rules ( under 12 ppl )
Is there anywhere you can view the building Code of Australia online ?
