I live in a dual occupancy strata tittle. Both properties have common back wall and have separate entrances : mine from the main street and my neighbors is from the back lane . My neighbors property has come up for sale and I am looking to buy it. Effectively that would mean that I would own both properties on separate strata titles. This only makes sense if I can connect the both properties by making a corridor in the back wall. Does anyone have any experience In something similar? I wanted to know a) if I can connect the properties even if they r on seperate titles and b) what approvals do I need

May depend on which State you're in but if you end up owning both properties you should be able to join them by knocking a doorway/corridor through, maintaining the structural integrity of course. You should also be able to consolidate the title into one in need.

Talk to your local Council for any planning restrictions etc

If they are both Strata Titled and you own both Title's then of course you can have the 2 properties connected by a common gate, corridor, or anything else you'd like. You own them so you can do whatever the local Council Regs allow you to do. The only time you may have issues is with tenants as they may not like their rented property to be connected in some capacity to their neighbour's.
I hope this has been of benefit to you.

Thanks for the advice Anthony & Marjac. Sorry about the late response.

I am also interested in combining both the strata lots into 1 torrents title. Is this possible? Would I need to lodge an application with the council or the lands department?
