    Hi All,

As above im from Tasmania and am at the stage i want to set up a Structure and am after some professional advice. I have spoken to my accountant and she has already tried to steer me in the wrong direction as she is not familiar with the type of investing i want to do.

Based on this i am looking for an accountant, preferably in Tasmania but may have to go interstate that can set up my structure and offer advice on finance, deals etc.

I’ve heard to many horror stories of bad deals to trust just any accountant.

So if anyone can please recommend anyone would be a great help thanks.

Im even interested if there is any very experienced people in Tasmania that would be interested in mentoring me? I’d be happy to pay of coarse.

PS. Im looking at buy, reno and sell/rent to begin with then onto developments.

    Cheers

Hi Pagey, can’t recommend anyone local to Tas for you sorry, though with many professionals they don’t necessarily need to be in the same city or state as you though. What you’ve identified already though is what you do need – a great team around you to help you succeed.

    Hiya Pagey

I don’t know of anyone I could recommend in Tas – as mentioned above though, you don’t necessarily have to be in the same state as your service professionals. I worked with clients in four different states today – all over email/phone.

Looks like you might have to look outside of Tas for your accountant. There are plenty of recommendations on this forum for decent ones.

    Cheers

Just to prove you don’t need professionals living in the same state as you, I recently used my mortgage broker Jamie who has posted above to refinance my loan. I’m from Melbourne and he was in Europe at the time!(normally from canberra). Process was easy and quick. If he didn’t tell me he was overseas i wouldn’t even have known.

This wouldn’t have been possible 20 years ago.

Great thanks for the replies everyone. I thought this may be the case that i had to go interstate which doesnt really worry me. Where can i read up/look at peoples recommendations then?

I want to select a team now that i dont need to change for many years, do it right the first time!

    Cheers

Yep, I was sitting in a German guesthouse working on that one :-)

What I did a few years ago when I was looking for a couple of people to add to my team (as I had to ‘fire’ a couple, but that’s another story!) was mainly based around the forums and I just read through their posts to get a feel for them then did a name search to see what other people had commented on. I also called up a few locals for a chat too.

One of the biggest things I learnt though was to trust my gut. I went with someone for a service who came highly recommended but my gut was telling me to stay away – that something wasn’t right and I didn’t listen to my gut and as a result nearly got burnt, but it was a good learning experience….

Trusts and structures are legal matters so you need legal advice. Accountants can only give the tax advice part.

There is a well known structuring lawyer in Tas called Peter Worrall – not sure if spelling correct but a google should assist.
