    Morning Forum Members,

    As announced yesterday the Government will give a grant of 15k to purchase new property that will expire in 15 months and exemption to stamp duty for 1st home buyers. My question is.

    Before Marriage: I bought a place under my name. The property is under my home and also the mortgage (NSW) (using the government grant of 15k back in 2009) Therefore i have used my 1st home buyers grant.

    After Marriage: My wife has never bought a property in Australia (NSW) and is a PR holder in Australia. My question is can we take advantage of the 15k 1st home buyers grant and buy property under my wifes name. Since it will be her 1st property in Australia and we are not buying this together. Therefore the property will be under her name to get the 15K grant and also exemption from stamp duty for brand new property under 650K.

    Can someone clarify this for me please.
