I've just organised to get a flat pack kitchen for a renovation.

-Has anyone got a flat pack before? Are they easy to put together?

-Do you really need to get a plumber to disconnect and connect the sink or is it easy to do by yourself?

-Are splash backs easy to put up?

Im stressing a bit so any help would be greatly appreciated :) Cheers Tony

    Hi Tony

Have you carried out reno type work before?

It all depends on your own level of expertise. If you haven't carried out this type of work before than it will be tough.

With flat-packs, you generally put all the boxes together, than the benchtop, doors and handles. Be careful when cutting the hole in the bench for your sink (don't make it bigger than the sink!)

Splashbacks are pretty easy. You should be able to take off the entire board that the existing tiles are connected to. Put some new board up and tile directly onto it – I learnt how to do it via youtube :)

The sink depends on what needs to be hooked up. If you're simply swapping a mixer tap for a another – it's not difficult. If you need to alter the plumbing – than yes, get a plumber. Whatever you do, make sure the water mains are closed!

    Cheers

WHY????  I would never buy a flatpack kitchen. Too much hassle and wasted time.
Splashbacks aren't that hard. As long as you can see straight it's only a few rows of tiles. I've done a laundry and would have a go at a kitchen now. Look up Youtube. I'm sure there'd be a video. That's how I learnt to cut and put up cornice.

OK, seriously where are you located?   Don't stress. It's not too difficult.

So how did you go Dark Knight? Is the flat pack installed and your wife happy? What problems if any did you run into?

If you buy flatpack kitchens ensure you have the straight benchtop. Don't expect to be able to put together a bench join without expert help unless you have done it before and or have the tools.

The last cabinetmaker I employed told me he'd almost stopped answering his phone because 99% of inquiries were from people wanting him to join their flatpack benchtops.

Flatpax kits, are actually more costly in a productive and almost monetary way. Its far cheaper doing diligent research and finding a kitchen builder who you can work on a basis with and have understanding on exactly how you want your kitchen done.

I'll say it again… 90% of any trade in any industry of contruction will make your life easier and way cheaper if you know exactly what you want. Because they wont charge the variation.
