I rang HSBC to enquire about setting up a US Bank account from Australia. They provided me with the contact with the HSBC office in the US and indicated that I would have to deal direct because the local Global Banking office had closed.

Has anyone else had this experience?

If you are a Premiere customer you can open an account in any country including the US. Minimum business required to be a premiere customer with HSBC is $500k.

I had the same experience as you did Bonner with both HSBC and Citibank.  They just were not interested because I had a poultry $20K to deposit
