It looks like we need to change Accountants.

We've had the same accountant for 15 years.
Our investing plans have reached a point where we feel our accountant is not proactive or experienced enough to help us make future planning decisions.

This is scary and sad. Scary because we feel vulnerable, sad because we don't want to part company with the one who has helped us get this far, it feels like losing a friend and disloyalty.

We have spent many long hours over 15 years working our business and growing with our accountant who now feels like an old friend. We feel like we've been through so much together.
We now have the opportunity to start the next phase of investing with a fresh new investment vehicle (trust or company) and we see so much written on this topic of trusts and feel we perhaps should go that way, but our accountant doesn't have the expertise to advise on the best vehicle and structure for us. We have suggested we would pay for him to employ any experts required to plan or setup this structure and for him to remain our accountant but made no progress.

We had an initial meeting with a stranger, a local accountant / financial planner who works with a medium size accounting practice. But all he seemed interested in was "signing us up" ( had the paperwork all ready and tabbed for signatures) so he could take over the trailing commissions on our various existing insurance policies and get our assets under management. No personal interest whatsoever, stone cold.

I guess we're seeking a great accountant / financial planner who understands property, tax and investment structures, who is friendly, has a sense of humour, likes people and genuinely wants to help them with their wealth creation.

Is this an unrealistic idea ? Am I being naive here ?
Can anyone suggest someone or  suggest the method of going about finding this accountant ?

Any help would be appreciated, ideas, recommendations, whatever.

If you think you're the accountant required, please feel free to contact me.
Location near Newcastle, but willing to travel a bit for an initial chat with someone.

    Cheers

An accountant with a sense of humour. That might be a stretch.

     Just kidding.

    Do you need friends?
I would have thought finding an accountant that knows his/her stuff and thus help you with your financial independence would be enough.

What's your priority?  Or do you want ALL the things you listed. If so good luck to you.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
There are many great people out there, including "great" accountants, we'll end up with the right one.

sounds like the sort of accountant i want….sigh

    * by the way, very touching post – in a way i feel for your “lost” and i can see you and your accountant have a REALLY strong and good relationship. Just because your changing accountant doesn’t mean you can;t be friends anymore!

    Hi the crest,
Oops!.., don't know why it did'nt post.
It seems like we are in the same postion "need to change accountant".
My accountant has looked after our business for 8 yrs and my parents for 20+ yrs.He has work together with our  family for a long time, and known him to be as  a member in the family.
"Yes"  I  feel same in your situation guilty to a friend. I have spoken to him many time regarding about my future goals and the topic trust/ company, whether if it is beneficial from me. He  dose'nt seem to understand my situation.

Sorry have'nt solved your problem, just sharing the same experience with my accountant

All the best!…Hope you've find the accountant you are looking for..
It's ashame Richard Taylor is not from Melbourne..   :(

    Hi st81hp79
Glad & sad someone else is seeking the same solution.

Perhaps I should fax my accountant and request a quote from him for engaging a tax / trust specialist to look at my situation  and propose a plan and report back to my accountant and include in the quote the cost of my accountant's evaluation of the proposed plan. Might try that, see if it works.

If you send your car to a general workshop and it needs work in the transmission or electrics, they send it to a transmission specialist or an auto electrician. How hard is it. And I'm sure my accountant's car goes the same route.  So this is not rocket science. I don't understand .

    Open to info anyone.

    Cheers

    the crest,

My friends are using Prosperity.. and they are OK…
'Cruther and Naele' has some good feedback… go to their website.. make an appointment with them…

I use Nick Parras (Parras Associates) for my accounting.. as he is dealing with medico all the time..
I use him to structure my medical practice; but he has a very good grasp on property as well..

    Richard is not an accountant.
He is a mortgage broker and/or financial planner
