    Evening all,

I have no doubt someone on the forum has converted 1 dwelling into 2 areas which can be rented out on seperate leases before.
My current house is a large 4 bedroom, 2 living & 2 bathroom house which could easily be converted into 2 areas with a little bit of handy work.
Are ther any legal obligations (council etc) that i should be aware of before exploring this possibility.
Has any one done this and was it worth the work required?
Are there any pitfulls or obsticles to be awre of.
Any input or opinions will be appreciated.

    Cheers
    NOS1

You will need to fire separate the two dwellings ie build a fire wall between the two sides – not sure of the standard but at least 120/120/120. This needs to extend from the ground through to the roof tiles.

    Hi IP,

Thanks for the info, would this only apply to areas where excisting wallls are not be utilised already?
Do you know where i might be able to obtain regulations and rulings regarding this.
    Thanks again

Try the Building Code of Australia or your council
