I'm assuming you would contact the local council to find out? I'm talking about a property that is not on the market.

    Hi,

You could seek to get the details of the council… I'm not sure if the rate payer roll is public record or not though.

If not, you can always do  a title search. That will tell you the owner and a contact address.

    All the best,

A title search will give you the owner's name but not necessarily their current address.

You may need to lodge an FOI request with the Council as ratepayer rolls aren't public for privacy reasons (sorry Steve!) or you could search the phone book or electoral role for the current residential address of the owner.

You can order a Register Search Statement for about $16 here;  https://www.landata.vic.gov.au

I have done this before.  It shows the name and address of the owner(s).  Then you can just find their phone numbers on http://www.whitepages.com.au …. if the phone number is listed, that is.  It also shows any encumberances, caveats and notices (eg if there is a mortgage held, and if so, with which bank/financier).
