    anyone had much experience with knocking out walls and had a structural enginner involved??

    is this a reasonable quote – i am in melbourne

    Structural Design = $500

    Certification of Compliance = $150

    Soil Report = To be provide by client.

    Site Visit = Not quoted.


    Total = $650 + GST

    That seems pretty reasonable, there is a bit of time in measuring, calculating, drawing and writing up what you need, so for the work that goes into it, it seems like a reasonable cost.

    I'm a structural engineer and that is the absolute minimum i would charge. that would get you a beam size, columns, pad footing and basic connection details.

    Anything fancy like cranks in the beam or special connections etc and I would def. be charging more.

    question: is there an architect involved that will provide the engineer with the information, loading conditions, span length etc?
    I assume you know for sure the wall is load bearing/
