Buying 1st house, in flood prone area?

Hi,

I am looking at buying a property outside of Newcastle, in Merewether. The problem is, in the contract it says this property is in a flood prone area.

My and my partner are highly interested in this property, but would like to hear from some other people who have been in a similar situation?

I will contact Newcastle City Council tomorrow to find out when the area was flooded last, and if any work has been done to prevent this from happening in future, but my main concern is – will the bank lend money for the purchase?

Also, NRMA covers for flood damage… Anyone had dealings with this?
