My fiancé owns an investment property, which she’s subdividing to build a townhouse on. The only problem is that the title of the land is in her and her father’s name. We are going to refinance her mortgage and borrow extra to pay for the construction of the townhouse and then live in it upon completion.
Could someone please advise what the best course of action is for transferring the title from her name and her father’s into both of our names? Is it best to do it before or after marriage? Should we just have the title of the subdivided lot in both of our names and leave the existing lot in her and her father’s names?
I’m not 100% sure of the CGT consequences of transferring titles. Much appreciated
