    Hi all

I am a gvt employee conveniently  holed up in a heavily subsidised gvt house. This has helped us improve our financial situation substantially. However, we are seeing great investment opportunies around and the problem is jumping on board will mean losing gvt housing because accommodation will NOT be provided when:The locally appointed employee or spouse own local accommodation or employee’s partner is employed in the locality prior to the Department appointment.
We would really want to start locally without losing this accomodation. We were thinking of setting up a company or trust etc and invest through that. The only thing is we are not sure of how legal that move is.

    Regards

    Mr Mun…

You would need to look at the exact wording of the policy and get specific advice.  The policy may also reflect Fringe Benefits tax requirements for your employer.

I know that in the Defence Force the policy wording is such that even purchasing in a trust or company will strip you of the right to subsidised housing.  You would have to get legal advice based on the policy wording.

    Cheers
