Southern Italy is a very attractive proposition when considering buying a second home overseas. This area has largely been undiscovered as previously difficult to access. Now with the introduction of regular flights to this region and over 1 billion euros of government money being ploughed into the region, it really is an exciting time to buy. You can get a very nice sea view penthouse apartment in a prime location for only €69,950. For further information log onto http://www.firstpropertychoice.com

Oh yes, Calabria, nice place. Love it. Have you ever been there? I mean been as in lived there for more than a day?
I can tell you. It is one of the most dangerous and crime stricken places in Italy. Whoever thinks in buyin there for investment without living in Italy must have his head examined by a specialist.

    Hi,

I am French and my wife Calabrian. I live in Spain balearic islands.
Investing in Calabria is extremely dangerous. The n'drangetta manipulates everything there.
The nerest area without any mafia is basilicata. Lovely but very poor about infrastructures.
The nerest airport (Althought never finished) is in Scalea (Calabria). The EU subventionned money
that should have been used to finish the airport has infortunately deseapared.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion 1Winner and mine along with many others differs from your own. With regards to the infrastructure Spark, I agree it is certainly behind Northern Italy, but then the prices are around half the national average. I think if you visited you would be surprised at the changes currently happening. There is real money being spent by the EU, 3 billion euros to be precise ( you can find the breakdown of this by visiting the EU website) Changes are already well underway, and with the new bridge linking Sicily to Reggio, its all positive.  There are currently two international airports accessible from outside Italy, Lamezia Terme and Reggio itself. I agree it may not be everyones destination, but I dont think it should be dismissed so easily.

    Hi Carleneg

I have been their last week as my father in law unfortunately died.
As i said, my wife's family live both in Calabria and Basilicata.
In Calabria from Praya A Mar to Scalea and in Maratea for the basilicata part.
Calabria becomes dangerous when you pass Cosenza.  There are villages i could
visit in the Calabrian mountains (really beautiful by the way) because my wife's familly know people there.
However, we had to call before going and describe the car we would come with to avoid having troubles.
Most people don't know how it really work's there. Talking about investment, yes the prices are very attractive and
depending on the part of Calabria you invest in, it can be interresting. The most popular places in summer are on the
mediteranean cost. May people from Napoli comes down for holidays but it is dead in winter. I will be there again inApril, I can look around for "reliable" property provider if someone is interrested.

    Sincerely

    In few words :
    1-Take a map of Calabria.
2-Draw an horizontal line from Amantea to the other side.
    3-Consider Ok the noth part.
    4-Forget the south part.

    Sincerely

Fabulous. Where are her family, perhaps they are in the same area?

As I said, its not for everyone, but its a place I love and think it its well worth looking at. Only time will tell if you are right as is the case in any new market.

When I can understand sentimentalism be drawn in, when there is family involved, for an investor to say "not for everyone" like a turist is a tad suprising. Irak is "not for everyone" and so is Manchuria.

An investment is either good or bad.
It either makes you money or cost you money, there is no "nice" bad imvestment nor is there "horrible" good investment.

If a house in Calabria can be rented fore more money than it costs to keep and if it increases in value, it is a good investment, regardless of aesthetics or emotional mumbo jumbo or pasta alla Calabrese.
If a house in Calabria is wonderful and poetic yet the prices go down every year, no one pays rent and it get's trashed regularly by scuatters, hey this "wonderful place" is not a good investment.

I say stay clear from anything in italy south of Napoli including Napoli…. come to think of it, make that Rome….or… better Venezzia….nee to many mosquitos in summer. I vote for the Italian cantone in Swizzera. Yes, that's it!

Best potential anywhere however is still Cuba.
My word, dont tell anyone though.

Yeah I would say its dangerous if your not from the town originally. Where looking into purchasing there also, and we have no problems.  Some of the units have more Hi Fi then our own homes here. But like I said, you have to be from around there in the first place.  Because if your not, you will fall into trouble all the time.
