    Hi everybody,

We're new to the renovation scene.  Just want to know if we need to have licensed tradespeople to carrry out the following jobs, or just anyone who is capable of doing the job will do:

    1) to replace a metal roof with a colorbond roof for the garage
    2) to replace some rotten wooden supporting beam for a balcony

    Thank you

Builders,  Plumbers and Electricians are licenced trades,  Anyone doing jobs within these areas needs to be a licenced tradesman,  Anything else can be done by anyone

Metal roofing is the realm of a licenced plumber

Support beams – If it falls down and kills someone ie tenant or new owner then the coroner will ask who did the work.

If you do the work you have to guarantee the work for a number of years.

If you decide to do it yourself you need to know what the regulations are and whether it needs a professional to do it.

These are serious jobs and I suggets you get someone to do it who is the least likely to cause you any headache over it. Your peace of mind is worth the investment.
