Could I have some advice please from fellow PI's about their properties….

We are looking a buying a highset home in Qld.  You know the ones with a 3br residence upstairs and large storage area beneath (which is basically wasted space !!!).    Well if we were to convert this wasted space into a 1br fully self contained unit with its own bathroom and kitchen/living area which could be rented out seperately then do we (or should we) get a DA??

I'm assuming that without a DA we couldn't get seperate water/electricity meters for both residences without questions being asked??

Our plan is definately to buy and hold this property for many years, but if in the future we wanted to sell then would we have any problems with council, etc….   because I'm wondering if it could be sold as a 4br home (ie teenagers retreat downstairs or in-laws accomodation…)

    Thanks for reading
    Boshie
