Quick question- we have just bought our first project and I have one very quick question. Two rooms have built ins and we are just looking at replacing doors and handles on the built-ins. Does anyone have a suggestion on where we could buy doors to suit or do we need to get them made?

    Dear Jason,

The best way to approach this is to buy new or second hand doors that are close to the measurement and then have a carpenter or handyman make the final adjustment to make them fit.

If you get doors custom built they can often be very expensive.

When selecting a second hand or new set of doors that you plan to have adjustments made to, make sure they are built from solid wood otherwise when you cut them you may end up with a situation where they will become un-useable due to the construction being hollow.

Otherwise have you considered painting the existing doors and installing new handles?

Mark, thanks for your reply. We have considered painting and new doors handles however the built in's have a pattern on them and are quite dated in their apperance. Where would we buy new doors from?

    Dear Jason,

You will need to shop around in your local area, but dont discount second hand doors, because once painted no-one will notice the difference.
