    Hi.

Have people who have used MDF for Skirting Boards been happy with the results?

they are often more consistant and have a better finish than pine ones. seem to be equally hard wearing, though MDF hates water so be careful where its used.

As a builder pre-primed MDF is all we use to fix-out our projects, unless the client specifies diffrently. The good points about MDF are: it doesn't warp or bow like timber, no knots to be patched up and white ants don't eat it.

Put it in my own home built 9 years ago. No problems except for 3 locations. 1) behind the kitchen sink 2) behind the washing machine 3) right near the shower door. Common theme is water (as mentioned above) The problem areas only total about 2 metres all up so in hindsight I would have found something else for these locations or perhaps I could have water proofed these sections better???

How do the prices compare between the pine and the MDF. These MDF ones seem pretty good.

Also If you have an issue with the water could you just put pine ones in that region and then MDF everywhere else??

    Kind Regards,
    Christopher Fife.

People it doesn't matter if it's MDF of pine or any other timber, unless you seal it properly (paint it front and back) the material will always react to moisture.
