    Good morning all.

We are about to do a reno on an older style home which has press metal ceilings.

We are still deciding on what to do with the lighting.

At the moment there are Fluro's in the Bedrooms,
we are thinging about down lighting.

How will this go with the pressed metal ceilings,
will this require drilling holes in the pressed metal?

    Regards
    Daryl

Why not put a central fitting where the hole is already there and put in a multiple dichroic (spelling?) light there with lights pointing in different directions and washing different walls with light. Or what about one central dichroic fitting in the centre and some wall lights. It would be a pity to have to put holes in a pressed metal ceiling, and could possibly reduce the value of the place.

    Hi Daryl

Im an electrician on the gold coast and i would definately agree with wylie. Adding down lights may be tricky as they look best in simatry. If the excisting light wholes are not in the centre of the room when adding extra D/L they will not look right. Also if you do decide to go with D/L then make sure the electrician knows what he is doing as wholes do need to be drilled (approx 72 – 92mm in size depending what fitting you choose) and there is no room for error.

My advise, depending on the style of ceiling would be: if the house is modern then go with a fitting that has several D/L attached but remeber to get 240v lamps so save cutting larger wholes in the ceiling to fit the transformer or rewiring.
If the house is more of a classic then nice pendant hanging lights be nice
Or for an effective simple look nice oyster lights.

Hope ive help any more questions let me know

Arrh – Sacrilidge – Down lights are losing popularity as it is without butchering a gorgeous pressed metal ceiling – Why not go for the trusty 100w light bulb and glass lamp shade right in the middle, or if you want to be special, a good old classy chandelier. )the type with three bulbs look great) Should look right in character – and create great ambience! Glass of wine?

    Thanks All;

How effective are D/L when compared to a standard light?

    Is a 50w D/L equivalent to a 50w globe?

Would a 50w D/L be sufficient for a standard room?

How difficult are they to wire?

    Regards
