About a dozen or so brave people ventured off to Ballarat last weekend to participate in the RENOVATION TOOLBOX Live Event!

This brave team lead by Dean Parker, Elise Jackson & their very intense builder Tony, set about stripping & renovating 3 units, from start to finish. Now this was not like any other workshop you have ever been to before! This was not a seminar with someone pointing at pictures of pretty houses on a screen & saying all we did was replace a broken window & made $10M profit. This is real, get stuck in & learn hands on how to organise & then complete a renovation for real profit.

Although this team was threatened with getting covered in filth, paint & who knows what else, what transpired was amazing. It was an interesting sight seeing an eclectic bunch of people, some with a number of renos under their belt, and some who had little more than read about the process an API, ripping out kitchens, plastering, building walls, painting, using foreign power tools (ok, they were made in China but what I meant was the tools were foreign to some of the participants) etc.

Just some of the events were

    * Richard pulling more off the door frame than required so Dean then demonstrated how to put it back on.

    * Blue and green carpet that matched the bright blue and yellow walls.

    * Wonderful cooking by Elise’s mum!!!

    * Humphrey the puppy – Bec had to be restrained from taking him home with her

    * Natalia putting up a wall under Tony’s instructions

    * Claire getting stuck into bashing the tiles in the kitchen

    * Everybody ducking and weaving from the flying tiles as Tony bashed away at them in the kitchen

    * Learning how to totally dismantle a room in 5 seconds Watching 12 people just pull everything off – the curtains, pelmets, carpet,

    * The Kamikaze Frisbees

    * Egg and bacon muffins from the BBQ for breakfast – Troy the gourmet breakky chef

    * Dave Bradley showing up for the very last hour!! – he made sure all the work was done by then

    * Sue commenting to Bec that the last time the camera was on she was filming Troy in the shower – hmmmm!

    * Watching the girls & guys who had never done this type of stuff before getting stuck into it!!
    * Leadership skills shining through. Some of the people who had some experience helping out those who hadn’t. Beneficial to all parties
    * Ballarat put on a beautiful weekend for everyone, who says it it always -2 up there?
    * Some people brave enough to live the ‘real reno experience’ & sleeping on the floor in one of the units – fortunately Troy’s parents live about 15 minutes away so we have a comfy bed for the night

We can’t wait to get back there this weekend & finish the project with some painting, rendering, fencing & landscaping. Truly a wonderful & highly educational experience for all who attended & we can’t wait to see the finished product.
