    Hi All,

Wondering if anyone out there who are doing renos in Melbourne could help us.

We just bought a property to do our 1st Reno.

We also bought the Renovation DVDs by Dean Parker and we sort of know what to renovate but are stuck on the following:

We need to know where to buy the cheapest supplies. On the DVD, Dean Parker mentioned he only goes to one place to get his supplies. We have been running around looking at places like Bunnings and Swan HomeBase and i must say they are quiet expensive.

Does anyone know in Melbourne where we can get cheap Kitchen (Cook Tops), Bathroom (ie,Shower Screens, Vanitys) and Landscaping products. ie Whole Sale supplier of everything or most things?

    Your help is much appreciated.

Hi, I am not in Melbourne, but I have heard of people going to the auctions. Not sure what name. You might find some of the smaller hardware places locally may be better priced on some items? I will have to watch my DVD again, but I thought Dean said Bunnings as he didn’t have time to run around town to different places? We have found the Mitre 10 store to be cheaper on somethings, but like Dean, sometimes we need to save time and get all the stuff together and get on with it. You need to work out what you are worth an hour? If you spend 2 days + petrol running around, and save $5, you need to add it all up depending on your circumstances. We went to the local timber place, and the plaster place, and besides getting crap service, Bunnings was actually quite a bit cheaper, and they will cut lengths of timber. The timber place wanted $10 on top of being a heap dearer to cut some arcitrave. We needed it cut to fit in the car. As it is your first, the time spent shopping around may be a good investment for the future for you. Hopefully someone else will come in and give you a tip on good Melbourne shopping.

The auction rooms are a great place to pick up bathroom & kitchen goods and are usually advertised in the Saturday edition of the newspaper. If not have a look at http://www.graysonline.com.au/
The drawback with the auction rooms is time, inspecting the goods before auction, attending on the day waiting for your lot to come up & then usually having to pay and remove the goods within 24 hours.

I’ve heard quite a few people buying off ebay or try the excess builders stock website at http://www.xsstock.com.au/

If you’re after some reno tips on how to target your reno to suit a particular market then pay our website a visit (see link below)

    Hi,
xsstock.com.au appears to be a very useful site but unfortunately seems to operate in QLD only.
Any similar sites for Melbourne (other than graysonline.com.au)
