A great place for advice is using companies. I searched on Google investment property north east and found a great company called investment property north. They have advice on all aspects including buying, selling, joint sharing etc. They will even buy it for you.
If you wanted to buy a derelict house and do it up they would do it for you.
Other good places for advice is government websites (ending in a .gov) which deal with the hardcore facts

Found another great company if you need you property doing up professionally.
Unfortunately they are classed as building services london which means there only based in London, however London is a good property investment and thus it should be mentioned. They get good reviews and a friend used them and said they were good.
If anyone has any other good companies to use i would love to hear about them
