    Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum and am looking to start investing in real estate.

Have been looking at some of the properties for student accommodation in Melbourne where the investor leases the property to a head tenant who then rents out to students (e.g. College Square Carlton managed by YMCA). I have spoken to my bank and they’ve said that they don’t lend on such types of property – they don’t expect these to grow in value.

    My questions are:
    1) Does anyone know of lenders who do borrow on these types of properties?
    2) What are your views on these types of IP? Their returns can be quite high (up to 10%) so I don’t really understand the pessimism surounding them.

    Thanx,
    TK

    Hello TK.

While not 100% on topic for you, the link below is to a forum string I started when looking at some student accom in Newcastle. Some of the replies may be of interest. Perhaps you could send a PM to some of the contributors.
