Has anyone got any bright ideas on uses for an old swimming pool.
The pool needs repairs, and I am not keen to throw money at it because percieved value is not there, and filling it in would be a cost too.
But if I could find another use for it I might add some value rather than loose it..
One thought is to put a glass roof over it and create a sunken conservatory – a bit “out there” and might limit the market I’m in, but it’s a thought.
I look forwards to other ideas.

Don’t kids love to use these things for skateboarding?

    or

    What about a wetland garden?

    or

With a cover make a giant cubby house…

    hi Harley2,

Depending on your location and how bad a condition the pool is in there are a couple of options for you.
My Dad is in the pool industry in Perth and so I can tell you these things come from first hand knowledge, not made up stuff. :)

Assuming you are talking about a fibre glass pool, not concrete.

    1. If the pool isn’t in too bad a condition (ie. it’s basically still in one piece) then you can get back fill for it from people who want to put a pool in. They’ll have piles of dirt and if you are willing to transport it yourself you should be able to get it for free.

    2. Look for second hand pool dealers and see if they’ll take your pool. Again if it’s not in too bad a condition (and they can see potential value in fixing it up) you could find one who will take it from you for free and back fill the hole. You might even be able to get some money from them too if you say you want to sell it (esp. if it’s got a pool fence and working filter).

Hmm that’s all I can think of for now, unless you were looking for a replacement pool.

    Cheers,
    Quinny

Try getting the Pool guys to back fill it for free. Check with your local council too they often excavate and look for places to fill…

Thanks folks. Some good ideas here.
I like the giant cubby house, (I should have grown out of that 50 years ago, so don’t tell anyone). Maybe I can combine a few uses.
    Any other ideas gratefully accepted.

Only thought would be that put an advert in the local paper. If your pool is accessible by truck, people building a pool will love that they don’t have to pay a fee for dumping their soil somewhere. You should not have to pay anyone for soil. If a truck cannot get up to your pool and you are willing to shovel and barrow, at least you could do it at your own pace.

We had real problems finding a home for our pool soil and would have loved to have somewhere local to dump it because our alternative was paying for several trucks to travel to the outskirts to an approved site where there was a large fee for leaving our soil.

Just be aware of the fire ant issues. You need to find out where the soil is coming from and get the okay from the appropriate people.

    Wylie.
