I’m doing my first development and I have found it very difficult to get information on the whole bond on driveway process.

Council and my town planner both seem to think it’s automatic knowledge that every person knows.

What I’ve figured out so far:

    – you pay 150% of the quoted cost of doing the drive and this then allows you to complete the drive after the house is built, not before, and allows the title to be issued.

What I haven’t been able to establish:

    – do i have to pay it in cash or can it be in equityor bank guarantee or something of the like? having that amount of cash sitting at council for 6 months or so not earning interest.

    – at what stage can i actually get the bond of the drive approved?

    – do i go directly to council to do this or does my town planner organising the permits???

have to say, the concil was not very helpful when i rang and told me to go and talk to the poeple doing my subdivision because he said that’s who i’m paying, not him!!!
