    Hi All,

I have a property that has dual occupancy on the deed, next door there is public housing house that has not had anyone living in it for yonks. The land it is on is also dual occupancy (the only 2 properties in the street that have this). I rang the Gov Dept and asked when it was going to auction and they said it isn’t [glum].

I wanted to get their block to develop has anyone done a deal with public housing before, and how did you approach them?

    Thank you

    Jenny1

    Hi Jenny,

Im currently in the process of buying from department of housing, but as a former tenant, so not exactly the same. Still, if the property is really run down the department will probably not bother with the upgrade costs to make it suitable for tenants, so may sell it. Best bet is to call the department of the area it is in, and ask to speak to the person who looks after sales of dwellings/houses. They will probably try and quiz you as to who you are and why you need to speak to them, so try and and get trough this- just say your interested or theres an issue with your adjoining property or something, they will almost definitely ask you the address of the property. Once your through you will be able to speak to someone about it, but they will most likely need to pass on the information to someone else (its a bit of a mix up there). Just make sure you keep calling otherwise it may take a while before anything gets done. It might be possible that theyre waiting for the right people to put in there so might not sell. Anyway its worth a shot.

    Good Luck,
    Ben

Could the common law of 9/10ths be applied?
