How do I determine if I can claim depreciation on the building? More specifically, how does one go about finding when the actual construction began or was completed whichever is the relevant date?
I have a place in Perth built about mid 1985, so specific dates are obviously needed to be known.

    Thanks

    Mal

    Hey Shwing,
I thing you can get that info from the Gov Generals Office – or DOLA.
I used to have an emial address of a lovely young lady in the GGO and send her my CC details and authorise her to debit the $7 or $8 for a search on a property. GIves you past owners, current owners, some details of the house and date of completion… from memory!

    Cheers

    Hi Shwing,
You can contact the electricity company in the area and find out when it was first conected.

The local shire should also have details and a good settlement agent would’ve provided them to you IMO.

So once you have the construction date, how do you determine the original value to depreciate?

    :o)

Option 1- Speak to the builder

Option 2- Call Scott from Depreciator
