    Hi all,

Some time ago in one of the forums I found that someone had kindly posted a spreadsheet whereby you could plug in your income and investment property costs and it calculated the effect that the investment would have on your tax returns over a number of years.

The spreadsheet had the old tax percentages and not being an excel guru, I cannot work out how to change the formulas. I’ve had a quick look on some of the forums however have not been able to locate anything similar.

Does anyone have something like this that they can share with a mathematical dunce? I am just dabbling with the thought of investments at the moment and do not wish to buy software at the present time.

Would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

    Thanks,
    Goddess K

    Thanks redwing.

I have been to that site before and the only thing I can see is the Positive Cashflow Investment Calculator. I have tried that before and I can’t seem to enter numbers onto the site and it also will not allow me to download the information. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I was actually after something that expanded over several years as well.

Let me know if there is something that I am missing.

    Thanks,

Goddesk, folks keep telling me I am pretty good with excel (wouldn’t say that myself but anyhoo). I could have a look at it for you and try to modify the tax stuff in the formulae. No promises though! Feel free to email the spreadsheet.

On a similar point, I have been playing around with excel and have come up with a calculator of my own. Is there a way I can make it accessable so other people can give me any feedback/ alterations or use it if they find it useful?

    Thanks

Ftp it to your isp assuming they give you web space..
then just provide the web address to the spreadsheet.

For example to ftp a file from the cmd prompt to my service providor bigpond I would do:

    ftp users.bigpond.net.au
(then enter username and password when prompted)

    then from the ftp prompt
    bin
    hash
    put calc.xls
    bye

would change to binary mode, display a # for kb then upload calc.xls to where my files are hosted on my isp’s server. bye then logs you off ftp

For anybody to access my files they would put in http://users.bigpond.net.au/<username>/calc.xls into their browser and the it would prompt them to open or save the file.

You just need to know the ftp address of where your files are on your isp’s server, and the right web address to retrieve them.

    Cheers
    Simon

    Voigtstr,

Thanks for the reply but it sounds a bit beyond me. I might wait until I’ve tidied it up a bit and start a thread if anyone is interested in having it emailed to them.

    Thanks

who is your internet service providor? I should be able to dig up the details from their website so I can write you a better step by step process.

    Bob,

If you are interested I could email you one I’ve been working on, I’m interested on any feedback or if anyone else may find it useful. Voigtstr has been kindly trying to show me how to make it available to everyone, but my internet related computer skills are limited.

    Hi guys,

I’m actually coinsidering putting a few calculators on our website, although I’m not sure how important they are to have online and which calcs are most popular??

I know I’d like to have Stamp duty Calc available online but what else?? Mortgage calc? Investment calc?

No hassle, I dont know much about investment properties but I know a bit about I.T.

step 1. do what they say here
    http://www.dodo.com.au/members_homepages.asp
    to activate your web space.

assumption: your spreadsheet is in “My Documents”

step 2. click on Start->all programs->accesories->command prompt (this opens a command prompt for you to type commands into)

step 3. when command prompt opens it generally opens you to “Documents and Settings<your user name>” so type “cd My Documents” (without the quote marks) and press enter to get to the folder where the spreadsheet is.

step 4. type “ftp members.dodo.com.au” and press enter. Type in your username and password when asked.

step 5. type “bin” and press enter.
step 6. type “hash” and press enter.
step 7. type “put calc.xls” (where calc.xls is the name of your spreadsheet) and press enter. you should see some #### as it uploads the file.

step 8 from internet explorer put the following into the address field at the top. “http://members.dodo.com.au/~<yourDodousername>/calc.xls” eg if you dodo username is jsmith you would put http://members.dodo.com.au/~jsmith/calc.xls and it would then download calc.xls to your computer again proving that its available to other people as well. (note the ~ character is next to the 1 key (need to use shift key to get it))

Anyway I hope that helps with uploading and then testing the file is available.. if it falls over somewhere feel free to pm me.
