    Polystyrene house

Seriously, a new invention: In the Netherlands, in a town called Volendam, stands this polystyrene house. ATM it is used as an exposition hall.

I found a photo attached to the (Dutch)article:
    http://www.telegraaf.nl/woonkrant/woonnieuws2/21659751/Wonen_in_een_huis_van_piepschuim.html

If it’s gonna work as a living environment, then hey it will be a 2 week job to build one, it will be soooooo cheap to build!
Hmmm better not place it in the middle of a tornado-prone area hehe.
Although, if it blows away it’s so light ya can just lift it up and put it back again.[biggrin]

Hehe you can post your comments here. Waddaya think? [blink]

Polystyrene, plywood, PVC, rubber, strings, plexiglas.

The «Polystyrene House» is built up of polystyrene strips, two facades made of wood and glass (including the door and windows), and a wooden floor placed on the polystyrene. Each polystyrene strip is taken from a series of eight interlocking pieces that are cut out according to a numbered sequence, then assembled and slipped over supporting tubes. The surface of the house depends on the number of strips you decide to install. When the strips are assembled, the house is practically finished: it presents itself in the form of a tunnel. Then you put a wooden floor down on the polystyrene and close the tunnel at each end with the two wood and glass facades, including the door and windows.
The technical casing for the water and electricity are contained within the wooden floor.

    Celivia,
It’s cool a house is now made out of polystyrene. I’m just worried if they make a house out of fibreglass next. How would you insulate it?
    Cheers,

Hehe, yeah I couldn’t get rid of the text, but just wanted to show ya the photo!

Apparently, they got European patent and are now in the proces of building a bungalow park with this material.
Building this polystyrene house costs 40% of the costs of a standard brick house and seems to be the most perfect material for insulation.
It has stood tests of snow, ice, heat, storms.

Now they’ve got to make some more land to fit all these houses on [biggrin]
