Many times I’ve heard people say – “Oh, I see the property market is up/down.” It always gets to me as I realise that there is more than just the residential house market, indeed a multitude of different property types are out there, and they all behave very differently, have different cycles, different investors, different prices.

Thought I’d start a list of all the different types of ‘property’ that are out there and people have invested in.

    Off the top of my head…here we go ;

    Residential
    1. Residential houses on a single lot
    2. Duplex / Triplex / Quads…and up we go
    3. Townhouses
    4. Units
    5. Penthouses
    6. Caravans
    7. Mobile homes
    8. Nursing homes
    9. Whopping great mansions
    10. Bare block of land

    Industrial and Commercial
    1. CBD Office blocks
    2. Industrial sheds
    3. Technology Park types
    4. Medical / dental
    5. Childcare places
    6. Petrol Stations
    7. Dockyard laydown areas
    8. Supermarkets
    9. Strip shops (as in a string of shops)
    10. Motels / hotels / pubs
    11. Fast food outlets
    12. Banks

    Others
    1. Rural towns
    2. Hobby farms
    3. Broadacre farms
    4. Islands (dreaming here of course…)
    5. LPT’s
    6. Golf courses
    7. Country clubs

I’m sure people have invested in way more different types of properties than those listed above…it’d be great to hear what people have bought into other than just houses…get a bit of variety happening on the forum.

    Cheers,

    Dazzling

Dazzling, I think you have a valid point.

I understand your frustration. I also believe that the focus on this forum is the Sydney, Melbourne resi market.

Seems to be very little interest in what is happening in other States and how markets differ.

    Dazzling,

A couple of other areas that you haven’t listed include Property Syndicates and Unlisted Property Trusts as well as partnerships or joint ventures.
