    Hi All,

Just wondering if someone would let me know when stamp duty is payable. If you have negotiated a long settlement do you pay the stamp duty on exchange or at settlement? I’d rather have access to it myself over the next 6 months than give it to the OSR or have it sit in someone else’s trust account.

    Many Thanks,
    Sonja

In NSW, I beleive it must be paid at settlment or within 3 months of exchange of contracts.

Further to Terry’s post, for off the plan purchases, stamp duty has to be paid within 3 months or at the expiration of 12 mths after the date of agreement, whichever is first.
