Can anyone help me locate an official database or website of the number of Real Estate Agencies there are in NSW, or maybe in Sydney metro area.

I ask this because I have it on good advice that the current slump in the Sydney real estate market will result in perhaps 15% – 20% of real estates agencies closing down business. This might be a good way for me to time my entry into the complex world of real estate.

Any comments, advice, or pushes in the right direction greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

    Hi Tony,

The REINSW (or whatever they call themselves) may be your best option.

You may well find that the number of agencies is relatively the same, apart from buyouts etc, whereas the number of agents may have diminished somewhat.

Real Estate seems to have a high turnover rate and as such accurate figures may be difficult to determine.

Easiest way would be yellowpages.com.au or click on the ‘search for an agent’ link on real estate.com.au

alternatively you could contact the office of fair trading for NSW

I noticed something interesting during the boom. Agents were making so much money in sales commissions they were selling off their pesky rent roles. I wonder how those agents are going now? Smart agents look after their rent role as it pays the bills during sales downturns.

    Hey Tony,

I’m a licensed agent myself….The SMH on Saturdays in the businesses for sale section have a stack of real estate agencies for sale. I’m sure you could negotiate a good deal.

Also, there is a chap by the name of Toohey, look up Toohey Real Estate, he’s a business broker that specialises the sale of real estate businesses.

    Hope this help.

    Kind regards,
    Smart Cookie

    Hi tony,

I’m an agent from sydney, if your wanting to come to sydney to buy or open an agency, do yourself a favour and buy some sort of a rentroll honestly since our state government introduced this stupid exit tax investors have literally disappeared of the face the earth.

Although great time to buy if your wanting to wrap properties.

    Goodluck
