Hi, just bought my first IP and got the FHOG. I know you have to make it your PPOR for six months, but I’m curious to know what satisfies this. I’m going away for an extended period and was wondering if I changed all my mail to get forwarded to that address and for all intensive purposes was living there- except I wouldn’t be because I would be away- would this still satisfy the PPOR requirements.

    Thanks in advance.

There is a tax determination on what constitutes a main residence. If you email next week i can send you a copy (it is on my work computer).

Some of the things that determine whether or not a place is your main residence include:
    – intention
    – mail
    – phone, electricity, gas connections etc
    – electoral roll address
    – family
    etc
