My time for real estate investment has come. I have read so many books my eyes and brain hurts. [;)]

I need to assemble my team.

Firstly, I need an accountant savvie in the ways of property investment. I have never needed an accountant in my life before so picking one aint easy. I would really value any recommendations from my fellow posters here about any accountants in the Melbourne area who you have found to be good?

Secondly, are there any building inspectors in the Melbourne area whom you would recommend? What is the approximate cost? (note: I obtained a report from a building inspector recently which was 95% form answer and 5% specific to the property [:(!] )

Are there any companies where there building reports cut through the bs and just tell you the things you need and want to know? Recommendations would be appreciated. [:D]

    cheers Kirby

    Hey Kirby ,
I use Dale Gatherum-Goss. He writes in the API magazine and does other Property related seminars, etc. A nice bloke to boot.
    His website is http://www.gatherumgoss.com .

    Enjoy

I visited that site and spoke with Dale via email and he invited me to come and see him. The only problem is that he is in Kilsyth and I live in Moonee Ponds and work in the city.

How often do you need to see your accountant generally? Is it better to be close?

Are there any recommendations for accountants close to the city?

    Cheers Kirby

Is that because he’s *that* good, because you only need to see him rarely or because you used to live in Melbourne?

Only asking because if it’s the first option, then sign me up! [:)]

At this point in time I find him to be that good. Now saying that he is good for me and that may not apply to others. I find Dale always challenges me on why I am doing things and if there are better ways. He is also conversant with Wraps and is an active property investor and keeps veru up to date with changes by his involvement with things like http://www.somersoft.com and answering questions in the API magazine and doing seminars around the joint. He also has written a book on tax system that was not a bad read.

In the end…..the choice is yours.

P.s. I didn’t live in Melbourne. I could never afford my wifes shopping bill if I did.

    Travel from Brisbane? Wow!

That is a strong recommendation there.

I’ll go see him and check him out.

How often, generally speaking, do you need to see your accountant in person?

Personally I visit him once a year but I do talk to him 8-10 timesa year as well. With the electronic age we live in it is easy to keep in contact.
