Hi ya all, This is not a dear Abby letter, how ever. I’m 34 male single(not looking for a date)and I have been reading a book called ‘Ordinary Millionaires, and what I like about the book is that the people in the book made their money through property in one way or another, but they did it with children. I raise the point because I have this thought that a woman and children will stop my property investing dead in it’s tracks. I’m only starting out so I figure stay single because if you stuff up it’s only you that’s stuffed. I just liked hearing to my surprise that you can do the property thing and have kids. If any one can add their kids & property story to it all then that would be interesting to read.

Ps. I don’t need to hear anyone tell me “the right woman will come along” This posting is not about that.

Funny thing is when my wife and I had two incomes we actually saved less than when we got older, had kids and went to one income.

I think it was the lifestyle change that did it.

    Yes, Mortgage Hunter,
I agree with you. I think having kids can actually change your attitude. Give you the inspiration to get your life on track, make you more responsible and determined to get somewhere.

Ok, when you are single, I guess you can take more risks, perhaps because you have no-one to answer to, but when you do have someone to answer to, I think it helps to keep you on your toes!

By the way, married, 4 kids,

    Keeps smiling,

I would also have to agree that when my wife and I had our first son (now have 2) our whole attitude changed everything we do now is so that our children will be better off and it is a huge incentive.

    Here here!.. [:D]

Id like to think when my kids are older (2 girls), I can pay for there high school/Uni education with ease, and when they turn 21, sign over a property in their name, or at least help out with getting them started, so they have a good footing in life.[8D]

    Its a jungle out there

Arty are you going to try for a boy?

or is your wife like mine when I suggest we try for a girl she says NO we would just get another boy.

Oh well more incentive to get enough positive property so we can afford to keep trying for a girl [8D]

um how many boys do you need for a football team [:0)]

    Camviv,

No 2 girls are enough, we spoke about it, and after the second one was born, I took the plunge and got “de-sexed”/”snipped” LOL [:D]

Thats just for piece of mind and no accidents.
    [:P]
If I really really want to I can get it reversed, but I dont have the urge to have more ankle bitters… [;)]

Kids Just wanna have fun and see their mum and dads.
    Hi Guerrilla Stu here,
my kids at 6 and 8 yo. are well on their way to becoming property moguls. They already understand use of colours, reasons why we choose certain properties, that mum and dad are really generous to let people use our properties and pay us rent (ha), they both offer ideas on improvements and love getting dirty. Property Investing is brilliant if you have kids. Not only do they get an education and FIRM seeds planted, but all they really want is to hand around with their mums and dads. Just recently I took Jesse (6) out of school and on a road trip to Airlie Beach where I’m building 32 units. he not only loved the trip and hanging with Dad, but he learned heaps….plus we got to eat out for each meal and swim heaps. KIDS go with the flow. So involve your kids.
    Good Luck Stu

    Lifestyle,
I am a 35 year old single mother with 3 children. (Not looking for anyone either).
With 3 children, I have renovated a house, completed and sold a 2 lot sub-division, owner-builder of my house (with my ex) and am now into my second sub-division.
You can do anything you want to do, with or without children!

    Cam,
I had 2 girls and wanted to try one more time for a boy.
I went to the gynacologist and he gave me a recipe for a boy.
Followed it exactly for 4 months and later on I found out I was pregnant. Yes, nine months later, I had a boy.
Some people believe it’s a coincidence, but I believed in what we were doing and I believed I would have a boy and I DID!
It’s all to do with the timing! I had to take my temperature every morning before I got out of bed and put my temperature reading onto a graph.
When my temperature was at it’s lowest, that’s when I was ovulating.
I can’t remember, but you find out when you ovulate and then have sex at a particular time for a girl/boy.
    Believe me, it works!

    Pebbles,

Sounds great if I can convince my wife to try again then maybe there is a greater chance in a girl.

You make it sound simplish Pebbs. I couldn’t imagine how hard it must have been at times, or was it ok ?. Good to hear though.

Just to add my comments, I agree with all of the above. Its amazing what you can do if you need to and kids have certainly had a lot to do with our property investing. Our boys 8 and 10….Our goals – pay for a private education for them, educate them in smart investing not working your guts out for a wage, showing them that we have the confidence to take a risk and fail if necessary to grow in life and spending as much time with them as possible whilst they are young. I agree with you and everyone has shown that it isn’t the big noose around the neck I thought it might be. Great to read about this stuff.

    Hi lifestyle,

I totally agree with Stu (Geurilla).

We have 2 girls aged almost 5 and almost 6. They love our property business. We have named our Trust “Saraclo”, after their names Sarah & Chloe. They now think that they own blocks of units and houses.[;)]

The girls always point out older types of houses that have “for sale” signs on them, and say “mummy here’s one!! I love their input, and even though they DO still get tired of looking through house after house, they understand why we are doing it. They are learning lots about what and why we’re doing this, and I’m sure that they will have their heads screwed on the right way, when it comes to money, in a few years.

They are getting the best education from us, and understanding that it is good to save money.

    Regards,

    Del

    Hiya lifestyle,

Sure the pace slows for a while, but the riches far exceed the IP factor.

I am the richest man on earth ! And I wouldn’t give it ( my family ) up for anything.

Lifestyle your choice is a simple one, go chase your dream of property ownership. Then choose one of your 100’s of tennants to be your partner ! [:0)]
