I’m looking at getting home insulation with the current $1600 government rebate. There are a few products available with certain companies installing their own products. The products I’ve found thus far are:

    Pink Batts
    ThermoSealed BATTS – http://www.thermosealedbatts.com.au
    Autex Greenstuff
    Blow-In Insulation

Does anyone have any experience with one product being better than another?

    Thanks.

Casper, all products must meet the standard for your area eg R3.5 so that they are all as effective as each other.

If you need to get an installer contact the Master Builders Association in your state – I think that in order to qualify for the rebate you need to use a registered installer ie not DIY.

I'd stay away from the Blow-in and if it was for me I'd go with the Pink Batts, specially if I didn't have to install it myself.

    Hi,

Just a little update on this topic as it is still hot regarding the government rebate. From November the 1st the rebate was reduced to $1200. There are also some additional regulations(like getting a second quote) making it difficult to get a new roof insulation. The best is to stick to a experienced insulation company that knows all the rules and guides you through the process. Have a look at this FAQ Page to inform on the government rebate: http://www.carbonfootie.com.au/faq.html

Regarding the best roof insulation we recommend Glass wool batts. They have a high R-Rating(determines the insulation grade) and are not inflammable (like most blow in cellulose based materials). If you want to know more about insulation have a look here http://www.carbonfootie.com.au/insulation

Yes, definitely avoid the blow-in stuff!

It's nasty. Not only does it pick up everything from dust to creepy-crawlies (mice and roaches love it!) and even asbestos in fibro houses, but it breaks down to useless faster as it settles, and has a horrid habit of falling through your man-hole and getting tramped into your carpet (and that you *don't* want in a fibro house, especially with kids around).
