    Hey Guys,
Just signed up here today to enhance my knowledge in the finance sector hopefully :) But i was just wanting to get some advice and opinions about the financial planning industry in Brisbane/QLD. I am currently studying the Diploma of Financial Services (FP) and have been looking around interstate and have seen theres probably a higher demand for para-planners and advisors in Sydney & Melbourne rather then Brisbane. Is it an ideal time to enter the Financial Planning industry or should i use my diploma and RG146 to get into another sector of Finance? Are there any other qualifications i can get to have a better chance in getting a job in the finance sector? (excluding bachelors)

    Cheers

    -nOOb :)

    Hi nOOb1990

If you want to get into financial planning try AMP as they run a horizon's program for new planner starting in the industry.
I think it's a 6 month program which will train you and then find a placement for you either within a practice or with the horizon's group till you find a practice to work for.
It is a great career opportunity as you can move into mortgages, investments, super and insurances and once you have gained your experience you may be able to open your own practice.
Great place to start is on amp.com.au to try and get a placement in their next intake.
Good luck in your career path.

One of my friends tried the horizon program. He had been a broker for 10+ years and had dip on fin services, PS 146 etc, and he missed out – it is very hard to get in, but looks like a great program if you can get in.

    Hi,

I am thinking of doing a financial planning diploma at TAFE and wanted to know what specify areas they cover.

Does it cover investment products such as shares, options etc and SMSF ?

    Thank you.

Been a few years since i did mine so subjects may have changed but from memory all of the above are covered (admitedly not in depth). All in all a broad brush really.

Advanced Dip you cover a fewer more subjects i slightly greater depth and then you have to specialise if you wish.

Would the diploma be enough to gain employment in a wealth management/investment company or is it recommended a advanced dipolma/specialised areas of study be completed ?

    Thank you.
