    Hi

I am going to reno under house area by adding bathroom/kitchenette which will allow for 2 completely separate living areas, 1 above and 1 below.
Has anyone done a similar project and what are the main legal processes required ie, council etc (if any)?
The idea is to have 2 separate leases.

Any stories and help would be greatly appreciated to a first time investor and forum member.

We have done something very similar near the uni in Brisbane, however, when we raised the house and built underneath we did not include any internal stairs so it really is 2 seperate dwellings which could have 2 seperate leases. We live upstairs and rent the bottom of the house out to students who pay for the mortgage. Best move I ever made. If we decide to move, which we will, we will rent the top house out in the same fashion.

    Interesting, Perp.

We don't have internal stairs either and a completely fully enclosed space underneath.
How does everyone get along with certain compromises made (noise, visual etc)?
    Have you encountered any issues?
How have you felt having your living space shared?
