    Hi all,

I am looking for an accountant in Perth who invests in property. We own 1 negatively geared property so far. I have met with two accountants so far and am not overly impressed with either. The first one rushed through the meeting and the second one was sweaty and mediocre. I figure that if we can find someone who invests, then they will be as excited about what the future holds as we are. I’m trying to find someone who is passionate about property. I’ve got another month until I go back to uni to set up appointments.

    Your opionions are genuinly appreciated!

    Dee

    Hi Dee

I have recently found a guy at RSM Bird Cameron, he has saved us heaps of money since joining his company.

I previously was using an accountant in Rockingham for the last ten years, but found he was too reactive, it was always after the end of the tax year that i found out i had to pay tax through capital gains. I knew prior that i would have to pay a capityal gains tax bill, but i expected that they would suggest strategies before the end of the financial year that would at least minimise the CGT bill.

This firm allocates a case manager, usually around $150 p/hr and any serious tax issues they use a tax specialist approx $300 p/hr. Your probally thinking it is expensive, but what he saved us in the first two meetings, was 20 times the amount i would of lost to the tax man.

He wont tell you exactly what to invest in, but he will certaintly structure your investments, whether they be through a trust , or SMSF.
He will ask for your tax records prior to the finacial year, so he can look at your situation and act accordingly to minimise your tax.

I dont know if it is the company or the man himself, but he has certaintly been the best find for us in recent years in regards to building our portfolio.

You dealing with an accountant from the country is no different than myself from the country dealing with an accountant in the city.

If you want any more info, feel free to contact me via email, otherwise i am sure they have a branch in Perth.

    Regards

    Wayne

Thanks for sharing your experience and insight Wayne. What do you mean by “SMSF”?

    Hi Dee Dee

I use Mack & co. west perth, I have been a senior bookkeeper for 25yrs here and melb and they are one of only 2 I would recommend in Perth.

I have never been shocked by the bill – value for money and they offer advice B4 you ask. We have a family trust, a co., SMSF, IP’s,Share and now my little business. So lots for them to consider for our structures and tax

Thanks Celeste, I really respect the opinion of fellow investors on this forum and would prefer to see someone who is recommended.

I’ve got a couple of leads so far, thanks to both you and Wayne [cap]

    Hola,

I too use Mack and Co.

Partner Tony Maclean is an investor and a gun when it comes to any tax questions I have. I got onto them because my uncle, a former investor in Perth commercial property, swore by them. My wife and I now live in Sydney but still use them as our accountants.

They are on Havelock St in West Perth.

    Cheers,
    Art

Just a quick update to let you know that we went and saw Tony @ Mack & Co this morning. He is by far the best accountant I’ve met, so we’ve decided to go with him.

Thanks so much Artaud & Celeste for suggesting him [biggrin]

Thanks also to Wayne for your input and for sharing your experience with accountants. This forum is brilliant! [lmao]

I’ve used RMG Accounting (Perth)in the past and have been more than happy with them regarding IP’s, they also do a lot of work with The Investors Club and http://www.excelaustralia.com.au and have a great understanding of Property Investing

Now, I use an accountant in Melbourne and a broker in Canberra(benefits of the digital age I guess)

However, I’m now looking at a SMSF so thes e posts re Perth are interesting

Wow, I didn’t even know that accountants recommended IPs in their general line of work!
