    Hello Everybody

My wife and I currently live in a small coastal town in New Zealand. We are relocating to Brisbane approx April next year and would really love some advice on investing in Queensland. We have not invested in rental properties as yet but have always built and sold houses as a hobby which so far has not worked in making us financially free so we need to try a different approach and +ve cashflow properties makes the most sense.

Can anyone answer a couple of questions

Firstly, Any recommendations for an excellent accountant to start us off in getting things set up correctly for investing?

Do you have capital gains tax on rental investments? (cant seem to find an answer for this)

What is the Brisbane housing market currently doing?

    Thanks for your replys

    Hi Greenfield

Firstly welcome to Qld when you arrive and especially Brissie.

Don’t tell too many people about the City and areas as we are trying to limit the numbers on migration.

No seriously look forward to having you as a neighbour.

Ok on the Accountant front i would recomment Steve Hodgkinson from the Gold Group on 5532 2855. Steve is based on the northern part of the Gold Coast and has been my Accountant and business partner in our + cash flow business for 10 years. Tell him i sent you so you can get past the receiptionist as most good Accountants are not taking any new clients.

Secondly, yes regretfully we do have CGT on the profit made from buying and selling a rental property. However in saying this there are a few variations and ways in which the tax can be reduced.

Happy to answer any questions you may have on the Brissie property market.

    Cheers

why would you leave a country with positive cashflow property, no land tax, no capital gains tax, no stamp duty, high depreciation, cheap tradesmen……..to come to a country with heaps of taxes and no +ve cashflow property & expensive tradesmen?

    Hi Greenfield

Welcome to Oz when you come in April. Having just got back from NZ in Oct and enjoyed your country & people it looked liked you guys have a nice life over there. I suppose life is what you make it but besides your freezing winters I think I would enjoy the slower pace of life. Boy that shows I must be getting older!!!!!

    All the best
    Juls
