Robert, you reflect and magnify what you read in the media, what I say is that you have no real information only second hand propaganda, and no I don’t play the stock market, yet if I did, I clould have done a lot worst than subscribing to Rivkin advice.

Anubis, hyperbole? what can I say to someone who does not sign his own post?

Wayne, good post despite the scallywag (what’s a scallywag anyway?) If you are ever at the receiving end of any window dressing government department you can only feel sorry for whoever they decide to attack for political point scoring. Admire the genius, Rivkin was an extraordinary achiever. Forgive the mistakes, given power and opportunity many of us would have done worst. Look yourself in the mirror and try to do better if you can. Call again when you have your own yacht with helicopter on the back deck. Perhaps then others will whisper as well “Oh remember Him? He use to post on propertyinvesting and had a scam going on there. hehe

    Nice website Wayne, good trading!

I couldn’t agree with you more, it was bulls***! He was still a scallywag though!

    >>> Call again when you have your own yacht with helicopter on the back deck.<<<

I don’t measure myself, nor other people by the toys they own. I don’t think the big fella upstairs does either. So I will call again whenever I please ’cause a helicoptor or a yacht is not on the wishlist.

    fjficm,
I can’t believe you could make a statement about someone who would feel the need to take their own life! When I read that, as an athiest I’m in danger of becoming a christian! I think this thread is blurring the division between a mental illness (bipolar disorder) and the illegal actions of an individual. I agree that one is not responsible for their disability, yet accept that they are responsible for their life (choices in business).

Sitting down and thinking about things more, I think that Rivkin’s disorder may be why he did what he did in life. Is it not a trait of those suffering this illness to be excessive or flamboyant in the way they go about their life? Are they not forever seeking a thrill or excitement?

    Rob,
Ditto! I have 2 friends who suffer from bipolar. One from school and one person who I work with. That is the mania (manic) side of the disorder. Not everyone experiences both the extreme highs or lows. The friend who I grew up with is one of the most intelligent and creative people I know. However, I have witnessed first hand one major manic episode that developed over a 3 month period. He applied for executive jobs everyday towards the final stages before he crashed (and ironically got 2 of the positions!), spent all his credit cards on crap, believed he was invincible, etc. I asked him what does it feel like, why don’t you go back to taking your Lithium when you know you start feeling this way? His reply was fairly obvious. He said ‘What do you think if you started to feel that great..?

I don’t know Rob but I broke up with my ‘extremely New Age’ girlfriend on Saturday night after being together for the past 3 months. I think I must have been an earth sign because she told me she was a water sign. Together, we just made ‘MUD’!

    Hey there Marc,

I don’t profess to know it all, but I do try to take in information and then make something of it… do you have first hand information to reveal, so we can perhaps become as enlightened as you so obviously are?

I also don’t rate people’s achievements solely on whether they are wealthy or not, with a helicopter on the back of a yacht or whatever, although I do aspire to become more wealthy myself. Some of the people I look up to and would very much like to emulate are filthy rich, others are not… At times from your posts, it seems money ranks above absolutely everything when you are assessing someone’s achievements, and I think that’s more than a touch questionable. Anyway, as I always say, each to their own, just don’t tell me how I think, you don’t know me, and haven’t walked in my shoes.

Sadaam Hussein had plenty of money. So did Osama Bin Laden. Pol Pot also had a stack of cash.

Rivkin was a larrikin, but a good bloke……

    He didn’t peddle drugs
    He didn’t kill anyone
    He didn’t run weapons….

He bought and sold shares…. and sometimes that was based on inside info….

The difference between him and other brokers out there, was that he slipped up, and got caught….. like the rest of them are ANGELS !!! come on….

ASIC, as rent-a-cop did their fair share of hurt by going ater him so relentlessly…… I wonder why ?? Yes I KNOW you go after someone who breaks the law, but with such zealousness ???

Can’t say it was surprising he died…. but unfortunately I feel the main people/organisations that caused his death will get away with it…..

He was by no means completely innocent… but as we are all taught at some stage in life….. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones……

    Very true Pelican,

How many of us, if offered inside info, would take it and use it to make money? I would have to say nearly 100%.

Apparantly there is a story in The Age (have not read as live in Perth) about an investor who gave a “professional” fund manager a million dollars, which he promptly turned into $100,000! It took him only 3 months to achieve this remarkable feat!

Which kinda puts RR’s $300 “insider” deal into perspective.

    Hmmmmm

I would not use insider info. Why risk everything for a few dollars?

I must admit Rob, I wouldn’t either. Making money within the rules is achievable enough without risking all.

I have several friends who were caught up in the WA Inc. saga, who are still suffering today (both financially and health wise) from having been caught messing with the rules. e.g. Tony Oats. Others, like RR, are no longer alive, due to the stress of dealing with the authorities.

Apart from a personal code of ethics, witnessing this has been enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

But I often ask this question of people I know. Not one has ever said they would not use it.

    Cheers

I remember hearing Rene speak at the World Masters of Business conference a few years ago. I never knew much about him but he sure made alot of sense (and money) and was a very smart man.

I know Rene Rivkin wasn’t perfect, but who is?

I can’t imagine the heartache and loneliness that one must go through to decide to end it all. It makes you think that perhaps life isn’t where we have thought it was after all. May God be with his family and friends.

i don’t believe this! The man is dead. Whatever happened to rest in peace!!!!! Sure he did some inexcusable things but has he not now paid the ultimate price??????

Same too with the death the other day of Sir Joh. Can’t believe how some small minded people who had a problem with the guy 150 years ago still begrudge him after his dead??? None of us are angels. I think once someone has died, and you can’t say something good about the person, be respectful and keep your opinions to yourself.
