Upgrades in transport network positive for Sydney investors

Date: 22/03/2012

The government of New South Wales recently announced the preservation of transport corridors in Sydney’s north-west, where Sydney investors will likely be one of many beneficiaries of this development.

The initiative has been welcomed by the Property Council of Australia, with NSW executive
director Glenn Byres describing the move as intelligent and progressive.

He said: “Stronger alignment between land use and infrastructure planning should better position Sydney to cope with growth.”

Mr Byres commented that the new rail line that connects Epping to Rouse Hill is long overdue and a step towards a functional design that will support development in the area.

“The north-west is already a thriving home to business parks, retail centres and new housing – and will host substantial future growth,” he said.

Relating to this purpose, Sydney looks set to prepare for expansion with a draft for a new transportation strategy, called Connecting our City.

Lord mayor Clover Moore reported that the population of Sydney will almost double by 2036, highlighting the need for effective planning.

“Business as usual is not an option. Congestion is already choking our city with residents, workers and visitors already making over a million trips to, from and within the city every day,”  she said.

Expansion represents opportunity, especially for Sydney investors, but it must be carried out with a forward-thinking strategy and so far the NSW capital seems to be achieving this aim.

The plan describes initiatives from adding light rail that will ease major traffic centres, to developing a street hierarchy that will organise the flow of competing commuters.

A functional and efficient transportation network is critical to economic growth in any city, so the enterprise is an encouraging one for residents.

Property investors will likely be one of many beneficiaries of the development as greater connectivity leads to a wider selection of investment opportunities, particularly for Sydney investors.
